Day 1: Arrival and drive to the hotel
Arrive early enough and be picked by driver guide for a transfer to a hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Have dinner and overnight stay at Imperial Botanical Resort (Luxury), Airport Guesthouse (Basic) or Cassia Lodge (Midrange).
Day 2: Bird encounters in Mabamba wetland and drive to Lake Mburo National Park
Have breakfast early in the morning and after, head off to Mabamba swamp for a rewarding birding experience. The birds to spot out include the shoebill stork, long toed plover, squacco, white faced whistling duck, yellow billed duck, grey and black headed heron, goliath, moorhen, black crake and others. Later, connect to Lake Mburo National Park to check in at Mihingo Safari Lodge (Luxury), Rwakobo Rock (Standard) or Eagles Nest Mburo (Basic) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Bird encounter in Lake Mburo National Park
Following breakfast, head off for a day search for different bird species in the savanna landscape in Lake Mburo National Park. While here, pay a visit to different trails including Rubanga forest, salt lick, Miriti and Warukiri swamps. The birds to sight at include emerald spotted wood dove, black bellied bustard, red headed lovebird, Ross’s Turaco, green wood hoopoe, bare faced go away bird, brown parrot, red faced barbet, rufous bellied heron, bateleur, white headed barbet, long tailed cisticola, Nubian woodpecker, red shouldered cuckoo shrike, white winged tit, king fisher’s a mention but a few. Dine and spend a night at Mihingo Safari Lodge (Luxury), Rwakobo Rock (Standard) or Eagles Nest Mburo (Basic).
Day 4: Travel to Bwindi
Enjoy breakfast and later, connect to Ruhija in Bwindi National Park that is one of the most significant birding sites in Africa. Embark on bird watching in the beautiful landscapes of Ruhija and have a chance to spot out birds like the Shelley’s crimson wing, Grauer’s warbler, Red faced woodland warbler, stripe breasted tit, chestnut throated and black throated apalis, Grey cuckoo shrike, handsome francolin mountain illadopsis, white starred robin among others. Ruhija Gorilla Safari Lodge (Luxury), Gorilla Mist Camp (Midrange) or Broadbill Forest Camp (Basic).
Day 5: Bird watching in Mubwindi swamp
Get up early in the morning and after, set off for bird watching in Mubwindi swamp. The birds to sight at include red faced woodland warbler, African green broadbill, blue headed and regal sunbirds, purple breasted, Grauer’s rush warbler, grey cuckoo shrike, mountain Illadopsis, chestnut and others. Have dinner and overnight stay at Ruhija Gorilla Safari Lodge (luxury), Gorilla Mist Camp (Midrange) or Broadbill forest camp (Basic).
Day 6: Birding in Ruhija and Buhoma
Early in the morning after breakfast, head off to Ruhija for bird walk and after, connect to Buhoma sector. While here, have a chance to sight at birds like olive long tailed cuckoos, rufous chested fluff tail, handsome francolin, Neumann’s warbler, red chested owlet a mention but a few. Have dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma lodge (luxury), Haven Buhoma (Midrange) or Buhoma Community Rest Camp (Basic).
Day 7: Birding in Buhoma or alternatively gorilla trekking
Birding in Buhoma begins in the morning and offers you a chance to spot out birds like rufous chested fluff tail, Shelley, pink footed and northern puff back, honey guide, red tailed, slender billed, starlings, yellow whiskered greenbuls, blue throated brown, blue headed, fine banded woodpecker, red faced woodland warbler, black faced woodland warbler, red chested owlet, white tailed blue flycatcher, pale breasted Illadopsis and others. The lodges for you to spend a night include Buhoma lodge (luxury), Haven Buhoma (midrange) or Buhoma community rest camp (Basic).
Day 8: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Enjoy breakfast and later, set off to Queen Elizabeth National Park approximately 5 hours’ drive via Ishasha sector where you have a chance to spot out the rare tree climbing lions. Set off for birding via Kazinga channel while on boat cruise that allows you to see hippos, crocodiles and several water birds. The birds to sight at in Queen Elizabeth National Park include Lesser black backed gull, three banded plover, striated heron common sandpiper, plain martin, gray headed gull, lesser swamp warbler, water thick knee and African skimmer. Dine and spend a night at Mweya safari lodge (luxury), Enganzi lodge (midrange) or Pumba safari cottages (basic).
Day 9: Bird encounter in Queen Elizabeth National ParkHave the whole day birding encounter with incredible birds in the distinct ecosystem in Queen Elizabeth National Park especially Mweya peninsular, Maramagambo forest, savanna plains of Kasenyi, Katunguru bridge and others. Birds to look out include blue quail, harlequin quail, martial eagle, white headed, African skimmer, black headed gonolek and others. Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya safari lodge (luxury), Enganzi lodge (midrange) or Pumba safari cottages (basic).
Day 10: Return to Kampala
After breakfast early in the morning, embark on a short bird walk in Maramagambo forest prior driving back to Kampala and this will mark the end of your 10 days Uganda birding safari.
