Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, get a warm welcome from our driver guide. Later, you set off to eastern Rwanda to Akagera National Park a pristine savanna grassland park filled with undulating plains, dense broad leafed woodland, acacia woodland and rolling and numerous scenic lakes with papyrus swamps making a sprawling wetland. Arrive early enough to dine and spend a night at Dereva Hotel (Budget), Akagera Game Lodge (Midrange) or Ruzizi tented camp/Magashi luxury tented camp (Luxury).
Day 2: Game drive and launch cruise in Akagera National Park
Today, your day starts with a delicious cup of tea or Rwanda coffee. After, set off for morning game drive for you to get the views over savanna grassland dwellers such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, leopards, the Masai giraffes, impalas, baboons, Oribis, gazelles, Burchell’s zebras and not to forget variety of birds. Later, return to the lodge to have lunch and some rest. After, embark on exciting boat cruise that takes you via the scenic Lake Ihema for you to spot out several water dwellers like hippos, crocodiles, aquatic bird life including the jacanas, pipers, herons, shoebill storks, ibis and others. Dine and spend a night at Dereva Hotel (Budget), Akagera Game Lodge (Midrange) or Ruzizi tented camp/Magashi luxury tented camp (Luxury).
Day 3: Depart Akagera National Park for Volcanoes National Park
Early in the morning, you will have breakfast and after, drive to northwestern Rwanda to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali capital. Arrive early enough and check in at Mountain Gorilla’s Nest/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Bisate Lodge or Kinigi guesthouse to have a rest, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Begin your day with breakfast and later, gather at Volcanoes National Park headquarters for briefing on the set rules and regulations for gorilla trekking. Make sure you have your gear with you especially waterproof hiking boots, bottled water, energy snacks, first aid kit, camera that has no flash light, insect repellents, walking stick and others. After, hit the rainforest to search for a group of gorillas assigned to you. This will last you approximately 4 to 8 hours depending on your speed of hiking, nature of habitat and location of mountain gorillas. Once you find a family of these creatures, you have only an hour to strike your imaginations with them, take as many photos as possible and explore more about their behaviors and body gestures. After, return to the lodge for a rest and then in the evening, pay a visit to scenic twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. Dine and spend a night at Kinigi Guesthouse/Muhabura Lodge (Budget), La Palme Hotel/Volcanoes Lodge (Midrange) or Bisate Lodge/Gorilla Nest Lodge/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury)
Day 5: Depart for Kigali
Breakfast early in the morning and after, set off for Mount Bisoke to explore its stunning Crater Lake or simply make a return journey to Kigali Airport and this marks the end of your 5 days Akagera and gorilla safari.
