The 1 day Rwanda gorilla tour is a short primate adventure that is set for those of you with limited time. It offers you a great opportunity to be part of the magical encounters with a group of mountain gorillas while in their natural habitat in Rwanda’s most pristine Volcanoes National Park which offers refuge to a section of these worlds’ endangered creatures. Besides, this park is also ideal for other thrilling and exciting activities which you can also take part including among others golden monkey tracking, birding, hiking, cave exploration and cultural encounters. The 1 day Rwanda gorilla tour commences and ends in Kigali.
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park to track mountain gorillas
Have breakfast early in the morning and after, pick up by one of our driver guides ready to set off to northwestern Rwanda to Volcanoes National Park about 2 to 3 hours’ drive from Kigali. En-route, get the best of rolling hills of Rwanda that makes it a true Land of a Thousand hills. Arrive early enough to join the rest of the visitors at Ruhengeri/Kinigi park headquarters for morning briefing by the park official on the set gorilla trekking rules and regulations. You will be allocated to only 1 habituated family to trek in a group of 8 visitors and park ranger guide. This park comprises of 10 habituated gorilla families where treks are always conducted and they include Susa ‘A’ and the Susa ‘B’ (Karisimbi), Agashya, Hirwa, Amahoro, Ugenda, Sabyinyo, Bwenge, Kwitonda, Umubano.
After, embark on the actual trek in the jungles of Rwanda Volcanoes National Park to look out for your gorilla family which also rewards you with amazing sights at the forest birds (some of the birds that are confined within this park include the red faced woodland warbler, dusky crimson wing, Rwenzori double collared sunbird, Rwenzori Batis, collared apalis), primates and unique floral species. Once you find a group of these creatures, you are given only one hour to have magical encounters with them. This adventure may take you about 2 to 8 hours depending on your physical fitness, location of these creatures and nature of habitat.
Later, return and drive back to Kigali for your scheduled flight if it is on the same day and this will mark the end of your one day gorilla tour in Rwanda. For late arrivals, spend a night in a nearby hotel in Kigali Marasa Umubano Hotel, Kigali Serena Hotel, Kigali Marriott Hotel or Gorillas Golf Hotel.
